Jennifer Mehigan is interested in how power manifests in the world. Her work has always been situated somewhere between art and design, and in the past few years she has focused on widening the scope of technologies she uses to include modes of artificial intelligence and virtual/augmented reality, floristry, writing, parties, and meditative performances and films.

I am an artist and researcher based between Belfast and Limerick. My PhD research focuses on specific 19th/20th/21st century queer Irish artists and their shared abstract tendencies, abuses of power by landlords in Ireland since the 1800s, and how these are related. Merging ‘the abstract’ and ‘the surreal’ with mapped networks of data and land management across the island, I am looking to uncover alternative strategies for navigating power today and surviving our contemporary crises of connection and climate.

I co-founded the artist-run cafe FRUIT SHOP with Mitch Conlon and Phillip McCrilly, and worked as a project manager for Belfast’s only queer DIY music and artist studio space The 343 until 2022. I am a current member of the architecture and nightlife collective Temporary Pleasure.

I am available for commissioned work and have previously worked in consultancy, art direction, research, and design roles for Nike, MTV, Walter van Beirendonck, fakbyfak, Eytys, WAH nails, Beautystack, Penthouse, Smirnoff, Sub Pop Records, Burton, and Dazed Digital amongst others.

I am sometimes available at sliding scale rates for community organisations and emerging creative projects.
